Protect Your Skin On The Trail
3 Nov
Are you an outdoorsy person? Many people are. It’s fun to spend time outdoors. It can be therapeutic and relaxing. However, one of the downsides of spending time outside is the sun exposure that you receive. Sure it’s nice to take in a little vitamin d. However, it can also be harmful to your skin to overdose on the sun’s harmful rays. The sun is unfortunately a carcinogen. So the next time you are outside on the trails – think twice and invest in skincare that will protect you.
SPF – The Higher the Better
Many people think that a simple SPF 15 will do the trick when they are on the trails. However, this is just not true. Ask any dermatologist who deals with skin cancer daily and he or she will tell you that a higher SPF is important. In fact, many will advise an SPF 50 at the minimum. Fortunately in today’s world of skincare products, these are not hard to find. Your local drugstore most likely stocks these and you can pick them up so you have what you need when you are outside.
Reapply Often
The next important factor to remember is reapplying. When it comes to sunscreen it is vital to reapply. You need protection throughout the day and one application is not going to protect you through a 6-hour hike. Instead, reapply every few hours. And as a rule of thumb, the fairer your skin is will make it necessary for you to reapply more frequently and to use a higher level of SPF.
Although it may seem like a hassle and you’d rather put on a hat, the sun’s harmful rays can still peek through. So, work to reapply often to get the protection you need. You will be glad you made the effort and it might save your life.
