Dressing Appropriately for Your Hike – And Beyond
14 Sep
One of the best activities one can take part in is hiking. It doesn’t cost anything, it gets you outdoors, it’s good for your health, and it can be done alone or with a group. Though walking up a mountain sounds simple enough, dressing properly for a hike is important both of safety and comfort reasons.
Covering Your Body
It is always a good idea to wear a hat when hiking. Not only will it keep the sun out of your eyes, but it will also protect you from sunburn and prevent any bugs from getting trapped in your hair. When it comes to your shirt, you will need more than one. This is when those packages of men’s shirts come in handy. A basic cotton tee or thermal works under a button-down shirt, with a lightweight jacket on top of it all. Layers will protect your skin, and you can always take them off if you get hot. Also for protection, wear sturdy pants such as jeans or khakis. Tucking your pants into your shoes will prevent bugs from getting under your clothes. A bandana around the neck also protects against bug bites.
Taking Care of Your Feet
Since your feet are doing all of the work when hiking, it is imperative that you wear the right shoes. A good hiking shoe has a sturdy bottom and a firm top to protect your feet from shrubbery and loose branches. You should wear heavy cotton socks on your feet; this will absorb any moisture and prevent blisters from occurring.
Hiking can be very fun and good for your overall health, so as long as you are well prepared and know what to expect, then there is no reason not to make it a regular activity!
